Ojo de Agua de Tlacotepec
Description
This spa feeds from sweet warm water. Its natural beauty and proximity to the Zapotec fortress of Guiengola, inspired a legend. "After several years of war between the Aztecs and Zapotecs, the Aztec Emperor Ahuizotl, made a proposal to Zapotec King Cocijoeza of Tehuantepec. He wanted to form an alliance, meaning Cocijoeza would marry the Aztec Princess Coyolicatzin. Uncertain with such a plan, and probably meditating, Cocijoeza went to bathe at the spa. It was here, according to the legend, that Princess Coyolicatzin found him. Despite his insecurities, the young Princess’ charms impressed the King. After that, they married, and formed a powerful alliance between the two nations".
Currently, this site is used as a spa. Water is crystal-clear and flows from a spring buried deep among bushy trees. Pools have been built around this natural spring, giving it a rustic feeling. The spa's complementary facilities are: dressing rooms, bathrooms, children’s playground, parking lot and food stands.
