Los Ladrones Cave

Los Ladrones Cave

Description
It is believed to reach great longitudes. Access is easy for the first 164 feet (50 metres), and from there, the cavity becomes too narrow. In this first gallery, there are different figures formed by calcareous stratifications. It is important to mention that since it is not completely explored, it is dangerous to enter without a guide. We suggest that visitors be accompanied by a guide from the Ecatepec community itself. During the Mexican Revolution, it was refuge for rustlers and thieves of the region.

Location
• San Juan Atepec: Is located 56 miles (90 kilometres) North of the City of Oaxaca via highway 190 to the Isthmus. When you reach the Juárez monument, turn left at the detour to continue on highway 175. Follow that highway till you reach the San Juan Atepec detour. Another 3 miles (5 kilometres) of dirt road will get you to San Juan Atepec. Approximate travel time: [2:15]
The cave is located East of the San Juan Atepec community, 8.7 miles (14 kilometres) from the "Llano de las Flores" (The Plain of Flowers). From there, we must walk northward approximately 2 miles (3 kilometres) to reach the cave.
