San Sebastián Cave

San Sebastián

Description
This is a grotto system comprised of several branches, and to date, only one of them has been explored and opened to tourists. It is a branch approximately 1,312 feet (400 metres) in length with an entrance and exit on each extreme. It has five chambers, ranging from 66 to 230 feet (20 to 70 metres) in height. In them, we can appreciate calcareous formations in the shape of human beings, animals, and common objects. In addition, it has a stream and small pools. Guide services are available.

Near the grotto mountain there is a recreational and rest area. The area includes grasslands, cedars, mahogany, "flamboyanes," and "paraiso" trees. Noteworthy in this place is crystalline stream along which 197-foot (60 metres) high "sabinos" grow. The entire scene forms a wonderful landscape. It also has palapas, fire grills, and cabins for spending the night. The stream becomes the San Sebastian River, which flows into the Atoyac River. Alongside San Sebastian river, up to the El Vado, we can enjoy similar landscapes to the one described previously, plus a profusion of pines and oaks.
